Seven?

At the park this morning, I noticed a fairly large group of girls surrounding Little Miss A. Upon closer inspection of the situation,I realized these were definitely older, they weren't taller, but then again most of my students entering 3rd grade are shorter than she is, but these girls were definitely more mature given the things they were saying and they way they were saying the things they were saying. After a brief encounter with Mr. D amongst the group where he asked if he could play too, the girls said he wasn't old enough. Mr. D's reply, "I'm EXACTLY as old as she is...we're twins!" Silence...the other girls just looked at Little Miss A. Then I asked "How old do your friends think you are?" Little Miss A's response "7!!!! That's how old I am pretending to be today!!" The sad thing is that she could SOOOOO easily pass for seven and um, she's only five!!! What are things going to be like as we enter the teen years? Will she be the one getting into 21 and up clubs at the age of 18? YIKES!!!!

A Bouncing Good Time...Until the End

Little Miss A and Mr. D have been BEGGING me for a play date at "the bounce house place" for the longest time. Well, today was the day. We had a TON of fun...right up until the end when Mr. D went flying off the bouncy did a flip in the air, hitting the nearby water fountain, landing on his back on top of the step stool below the water fountain. My heart just sank...I was literally standing 4 feet away and there was nothing I could do but watch the events unfold. Upon reflection of this afternoon, let me just say that I would be the WORST EMT EVER, I swear. They say you should NEVER move someone that could have easily have broken something, right? This could easily have been one of those moments. So, what do I do? I grab my son holding him as close as I possibly could feeling all over to see if something was jutting out or just didn't feel quite right. He was, of course crying like crazy, but his first words were "Mommy don't be mad." Holy crow, the kid knew he was jacking around on the bouncy house which is why he flew off in the first place, but OMG I was anything but mad. I was so incredibly worried that something horrible had happened to him. I'm happy to report that the little man seems to be A-OK...thank God! I've been asking him all night if his back is okay, examining him all over to see if anything appears to be changing. I think he's getting tired of being questioned and inspected, but man if he really truly escapes that calamity uninjured, we may have a stunt double on our hands or something. Forget I said that...never going to happen!!! How do those Moms deal with that? I was a wreck and this was just a total accident. Sheesh!

Mr. D...The Human Piggy Bank

So, regardless of how many times we've told our children NOT to put objects in their mouths, we still ended up with a little boy coming to us in tears this morning saying he swallowed a coin. What?!?!? In a panic, we check to make sure he's breathing properly, which he totally is. Okay, no blocked air pipes. Whew!
Me: Trying to ask in a calm manner, "Where is it?"
D: Pointing to his stomach he says that he "Can feel it right here."
Me: "What kind of coin was it?"
D: "A penny."
A: "No, it wasn't, it was a quarter!!!"
Me: "What color was it, silver or copper?"
D: "Silver"
So, I hit my wallet scouting for change. After comparing the two totally different coins, Mr. D confirmed that Little Miss A was right, it was a quarter!! After a frantic phone call to Mom, we hit the Internet questioning this scary phenomenon. (Holy crow, what did people do before the Internet?) Daddy takes Mr. D to the doctor, who of course refer him to the hospital for x-rays. After a single photo of his tummy they find the quarter in his intestines. Little man even got to see it. Who knows if he thought that was cool or not, he was miffed about having pull his pants down a little so his snap wouldn't interfere with the picture. Now it's time to watch the big white porcelain piggy bank for a 25 cent deposit. Let the games begin. Hopefully we find it soon, otherwise it will be back to the doctor for more scouting. YIKES!!! What a way to start a Saturday!!!!

Oh Where, Oh Where Can My Little Man Be...

I know you're totally signing that title line, right? Well, J and I definitely weren't singing it the other night. After a late day and LOTS of fun, Little Man CRASHED on the way home from a late dinner. It was a quick 15 minute car ride home, but the boy was ZONKED!!! I carry him into the house. (Since he was talking about STAR WARS through the entire meal and party from earlier insisting we watch part of the show, I thought let me see if he wakes up if he wants to continue with the movie night plan.) As we're getting close to the door he wakes up and says "we have to watch Star Wars!" Okay, no getting around it, I tell him to go get into his pajamas and I'll start getting everything ready. I see him hit the third step and turn around to start getting ready for movie night. 5 minutes later...no D. I start calling him...no answer! Getting a little panicked and louder with every call of his name, still nothing. I'm calling his name outside. (Although I know in my head he's not outside because every door and window in our house beeps with the alarm.) I'm freaking out, and boy can Miss A tell too. 5 minutes after I've been looking (though it felt like HOURS) J walks in the door. I don't know if it was my expression or Little Miss A's that tipped him off, but he immediately entered panic mode as well. We are ALL THREE searching the house for FIFTEEN minutes, under beds, in closets, the garage, outside, you name it. (Hi, our house isn't THAT big!)

OMG, we found the boy TOTALLY asleep on the couch in the family room. (His brown Jedi cloak completely matched the leather couches and he was 100% covered.) FREAK OUT!!!! Neither of us saw him, he never flinched. As I am gripping my son as tight as I ever have in my entire life on the verge of tears calling his name right in his ear, the boy still doesn't move a muscle. Now you're probably thinking there's something MAJOR wrong, right? Nope, just dead ASLEEP...SNORING!!!!! What a night! It was apparently quite the impression for Little Miss A...that was the first thing she shared with the class on Monday morning..."Mommy and Daddy lost D!" GREAT!
